Do I have to believe Jonah survived three days inside a big fish to be saved?

🛡️The Church's answer: The Book of Jonah uses exaggeration and reversal to show a prophet running away, pagan sailors and a great city repenting, and a God far more merciful than the prophet. The Church has not made it a condition of faith to settle on one modern judgment about the historical genre of every scene in this book. The point of Jesus speaking of ‘the sign of Jonah’ is the Paschal mystery in which he rises on the third day out of a depth like death, and the call to repentance.
